Stump grinding, any size
A leftover stump is more than an eyesore. It is something to mow around, a trip hazard, and a home for ants and fungus. It can also send up sprouts for years. We grind stumps of any size below grade so the spot can go back to lawn, a bed or a patio.
- Stump grinding. Single stumps, groups of stumps and large stumps from old shade trees. Surface roots near the stump are ground out as well.
- Woodchip cleanup, or leave the chips. We can rake the grindings out and haul them away, or leave them in the hole or piled for mulch.
- Topsoil and seed on request. We fill the hole with topsoil, level it and seed it so the spot blends back into the lawn.
How a stump job works
- Call or text 609-332-8852 or send the estimate form. Tell us how many stumps and roughly how wide they are. A photo with something for scale helps.
- We walk the property and check access through gates and fences, measure each stump and mark anything buried nearby like irrigation or invisible fence wire.
- You get a written price that covers grinding, cleanup and any topsoil and seed you want.
- Work and cleanup. We grind each stump below grade, deal with the chips the way you chose and leave the area neat.
Why grind instead of digging it out
Digging out a stump means a large hole, a lot of torn up lawn and heavy equipment. Grinding chips the stump and main roots down in place, so the surrounding yard stays intact. The remaining roots below grade break down naturally over time.
We do a lot of stump work after storm cleanups and tree removals in wooded towns like Medford, Hainsport and New Egypt, and in established neighborhoods in Mt Laurel where older trees have come down.
Before you call 811
Stump grinding goes below the surface, and New Jersey requires a free 811 utility markout before any digging. We make sure underground lines are marked before we start.
Planning to build over the spot?
If a patio, shed or walkway is going over the old stump, tell us during the walkthrough. We grind deeper and remove more chips so the base can be compacted properly. Our hardscaping crew can take it from there.
